Ordinary People: Inspiring stories from difficult times

The project “Ordinary people: Missing rights – finding solutions” involves filming five documentaries and ten research articles about “positive examples” during the wars in the former Yugoslavia. It was initially supported by the EU MEDIA Fund. The Independent Journalists’ Association of Vojvodina, Novi Sad (IJAV) initiated this project together with their partners, BIRN Kosovo and forumZFD. In light of the case of the young man Srdjan Aleksić from Trebinje, who finally became a hero ten years after the war in ex-Yugoslavia, implementing partners believed it was time to draw attention to similar examples of heroism, for instance through the production of documentary films and research journalism.

This approach was successfully applied during the previous project ‘Living Together’ that was also implemented in partnership with the Bosnian association of journalists and forumZFD, whereby the establishment of a sub-grant programme for Serbian local media is a novelty.

The contribution of forumZFD will also be to organise screenings/debates in Serbia and Kosovo, and to introduce this topic within the region. Furthermore, the personal and regional connections of forumZFD staff enabled documentaries to participate in important festivals, such as the Sarajevo Film Festival, Palić Film Festival, etc.
